Known as the ‘Night Stalker’, Richardo ‘Richard’ Muñoz Ramirez was an American serial killer. He committed 16 or more murders during his rampage. His methods were either by shooting, stabbing, beating or assaulting the victims.

Ramirez got his name, The Night Stalker after he would creep into homes during the evening and into the night. He targeted places with unlocked doors and windows. Following his entry into a house, he would kill the victim(s), leave their bodies at the scene and flee.

As a result of these heinous acts, the demand for locks on doors and windows rose exponentially. People were also petrified to leave their homes during the evenings in case they caught sight of Ramirez.

Working in the Kotobuki Maternity Hospital, Japanese midwife, Miyuki Ishikawa, murdered numerous babies. These crimes took place during the 1940s. She would neglect many babies from low-socioeconomic backgrounds.

The harsh economic realities left many families desperate for food. When there was food, citizens had to wait in a long line to get stable food. Ishikawa took this reality and twisted this into pity for the babies: neglecting the children and causing their deaths.

After this case and criminal conviction occurred, the Japanese Government considered legalising abortion in special circumstances in the country. On July 13 1948, the Eugenic Protection Law (now known as Mother’s Body Protection Law) established a national examination system for midwives.

Sentence: 8 years in prison. Resentenced to 4 years in 1952

Date of death: 30 May 1987 (aged 90 at the time of her passing)

    • Thank you for your kind words and for reading my content 🥰 Great thought and I agree, too much crime can cause a surplus in demand which in turn exhausts the economy and our environment!
